As a prudent student, you should know that the idea of a research paper will have to follow through in almost all of your academic pursuits. When choosing your research paper topic ideas, go online. Finding information on research paper ideas from the internet is relatively easy given the search capabilities now available. The more information available the easier it may appear but this is not always the case.

Choose a topic that interests you. This is probably the most important thing you can do when selecting a research topic. Your teacher might constrain your selection, but if you are given any opportunity to influence topic selection, you should thoughtfully choose a topic about which you are eager to learn more.

Start wide and get narrow: If you start with a topic that is too narrow, you may not be able to find any useful or interesting research. Perhaps you may find some, but you may not find enough. If this is the case, it either because you are not searching correctly or there is just not enough information out there. You can minimize occurrences of the latter by researching broadly initially, and then narrowing your focus as your explore the available research.

Research papers, by definition, must be based on research you do yourself. Sometimes research paper topic ideas are rejected because the research has already been done and too much information is available. Ideally basic background information should be available but information on the specific research paper should be limited.
